Good Grief

What a world we live in.   Would you believe a new video game has come out entitled....are you ready for this....ACTIVE SHOOTER.  Yes folks, it simulates a school shooting.  Players choose between being a member of the SWAT team or the shooter.  What....really now.....What makes it right to try to make money based on the hideous and senseless tragedies that have spread like an epidemic over the Excited States of America???????  Seriously.  For that matter, who in their infinite wisdom, decided that depictions of violence of any description was a form of entertainment either on TV, movie screens, in  literature, or games for children to play?  Young and impressionable minds, weak minds, diseased minds cannot stand up to this kind of glorified violence.  It is too much for them to resist.  Even a healthy mind after constant exposure is bound to be affected.  We see so much violence as a form of 'entertainment' that when we are exposed to the 'real deal' as on the news or in our own streets we are numb.  It doesn't register as being real.  What are we to do about this?  We can vote with our feet and our pocket books.  We can write letters to networks and to authors and to the purveyors of video games and to the famous directors of our time.  Will it do any good?  Only time will tell.  In the meantime let's try to divert the attention of our young to more suitable pastimes.

  1. I'm glad I don't have kids.

I keep away from entertainments I don't like. Not sure why this game would seem like a good idea for anyone!

  2. Over the top and as bad as "Grand Theft Auto" not sure if this stuff exacerbates the problem or not, do not see how it could be positive but for sure it is in extra bad taste.

  3. I hadn't heard about this one. I did hear about a new puppet movie with Sesame Street like muppet characters. It's called 'The Happytime Murders'. Granted it's for adults, but we all know that children have a way of seeing these things. The makers of Sesame Street are suing the company over their marketing campaign. "No Sesame. All Street." The news couldn't even show the trailers as the language was so bad. Shame on them and all the makers of these violent games. When I was growing up we didn't see so much violence, especially from our youth. That's because we were never taught violence.

  4. I heard this on The Today Show this morning and my heart sank. Everyday seems to get worse than the day before. One thing I know is that they will sell this disgusting, immoral, game, people will buy it, and more children will die - and nothing will be done.

  5. I blame the people who have so much testosterone and/or greed that they don't have any room for common sense, much less compassion. I'm not sure what the answer is.

  6. Good Grief is a lot kinder than my thoughts. Making money is not the most important thing. Making money out of other people's tragedy is an obscenity.

  7. Yes, this is part of the over the over the top greed syndrome of this country. The perception of the disintegration of moral thought brings out the grubbing for money. Cue up the murderous video games.

  11. I guess the "handbasket" to Hell is no longer an option. It's now an express lane.
    So sad.

  13. Oh! God! What's next? What chance do the young of today have with that sort of diabolical nonsense at their fingertips, within easy reach???

I'm pleased to read joeh's comment that the game has been pulled. It should never have been released in the first place.

I've just about given up on humans and their brainless behaviour!!!

  15. This is so sad that something this detrimental to the minds of the children can be let out into public domain. Enough is enough.
