Too Bad

Last week the news featured a young elementary school girl who reported being attacked on the sidewalk by a scissor wielding white man who slashed her hijab (now I know I probably spelled that wrong but if you read it the way I spelled it, it will sound right).   Her little brother was there when it happened and reported how scared he was for his sister.  Her mother made an appearance as well with her face covered with what to me anyway appeared to be a jerry rigged face cover.  Anyway, everyone was righteously indignant for this littler girls sake and even the Prime Minister weighed in.  Well, it turns out, the whole thing was a fabrication (polite term for telling a whopper).  Now more questions arise in my mind.  Was this just a childish prank or something more sinister?  Was the mother involved?  One thing for sure....this did not do the Muslim community any good.

  1. I saw the original piece but not the follow up. Whether it was a prank or a way to get attention or anything else, and whether it's male or female, young or old, or religious or secular, crying wolf hurts the credibility of those who are in fact assaulted, which is a shame.

  3. So very wrong. And you are right. It won't help the Muslim community at all.

  4. It is a sad statement indeed when even the children are acting out hatefully to each other. I loved that the mother said we all need to live in Harmony!

  5. These fake reports of attacks occur from time to time in diferent communities and it always makes me feel sick because it really undermines the real acts of violence and discrimination that occur.

  6. The good thing was that it wasn’t true. The bad thing was that it was all a lie.

  8. If it was a lie, then why? What purpose is there for that? Are they deliberately trying to cause trouble? That's mean.
