The Man Who Should Have Been President

We just watched Bernie Sanders address a group at the University of Toronto on the subject of Health Care.  What an amazing man.  We couldn't pry ourselves away.

  1. Sadly, this country is light years from a socialist president. The man wasted his talents and betrayed his country attempting to be president.

  2. I suspect that if I could have voted, he would have had mine.

  3. What I have seen, so far as his long term effect, is how he's inspired a lot of young people to get politicall active. I work with a very minor political party locally, and about a third of the active members are there because of his campaign. Hopefully, these folks will change the nature of the debate on into the future.

  4. I attended one of his rallies and was very impressed. He spoke my language but, like Joanne, I knew that America would not vote for a socialist.

  5. Sanders would have been my choice, too, if I could have voted. I understand, as Harry indicated, that Sanders and his policies have a huge following and most of his backing was from young people and small dollar donors, unlike the campaigns of the other two candidates. Also, I believe I remember there were actually a couple of outcomes (in the primaries?) where Sanders had won but the win was somehow credited to Clinton. I wish I could recall the details. It was in the news (not the fake news, either!) at the time, but nothing was ever done about it. My son, who of course is a generation removed from a lot of us here, follows U.S. politics closely and was firmly in Sanders' camp too.

  6. Of course I thought Sanders best suited for progress, but voted for Clinton because she (like Sanders, unlike Trump) believes in government by discussion. What we needed was a president who could unify this country with reason. I knew she would win the popular vote. That is why I continue to question the logic of the Electoral College and now favor its abolition.
