I Don't Want To Go

I have to go to the dentist today.  I know it’s only a cleaning but I hate going to the dentist.  The chair is slippery.  It tips me so far back I feel like I’m about to shoot out of it head first onto the floor.  The hygienist wears latex gloves that smell and make me gag and she peers at me over the edge of her surgical mask.  She looks scary, okay?  She pokes and jabs and generally causes more discomfort (I believe) than is absolutely necessary.  The worst part is when she calls the dentist in to ‘take a look’.  There is always something he is ‘keeping an eye on’.  I’m in a sweaty dither until he gives me a passing grade.  He’s really a very nice man and I kind of feel sorry for him.  Really, it must be awful to be the ‘man no one wants to see’.

  1. Not fond of going to the dentist...who is, but our hygienist has a very gentle touch, is always pleasant and is real good looking! I'm old, not dead...also completely harmless.

    1. As my mom told me once, "Dear, NO man is completely harmless.".

  2. I've thought the same thing over and over - who would ever want to be the person that people don't want to visit?!!

At the same time, I'm glad for the compassionate dentist and hygienist I've found, because I have so many issues with my teeth and jaws. So there's that. :)

  3. P. S. Hope your appointment goes smoothly and you stay in the chair during the whole thing :)

  4. Sigh. I am afraid of the dentist. She is a lovely woman - and she terrifies me. I don't like anything about the visit. It is an invasion of my personal space. I don't like the sounds or the lights. I don't like the bill. And sadly, if I do have to have anything done, dental anaesthesia no longer works for me. At all.

  5. I don't mind going, it's the cost that hurts me most and the fact that I never seem to be 'finished'. There's always something else that needs attention, always toothache popping up, the nerves I have left are just so sensitive. Right now I have aching in a tooth that was finished last year, which annoys me. I would have thought I'd be aching in the cracked tooth that is waiting for my next appointment.
I don't like the dentist's chair, they're not made for short people and I always have backache the day after.

    1. The cost is definitely one of the most painful parts about the visit. Today I had the actual dentist inspect my teeth, an xray and a cleaning. Yikes.

  6. My dentist recently moved to a new office. The dental chairs are TempurPedic.

  7. I can't stand the scraping. It's SO annoying. My hygienist is great--I just feel like the whole part where she's scraping my teeth with a sharp metal object is very, very annoying!

    1. I know, I mean, how can that be good for the enamel?

  8. Does anyone like going to the dentist? I know I'm not keen.
My dentist is a lovely man ... I think he is fully appreciative of the situation.

Glad to read in one of the comment replies that all went well.

    All the best Jan

It's lovely to know someone else is out there. Please leave me a comment...pretty please.
