Don't Ask

Since I lost the weight (over 40 pounds at this point) I've had a lot of folks ask me how I did/am doing it  They really want to know, but, only if it is easy, only if they don't have to give up anything they like in order to do it.   Once I tell them, they leave shaking their heads.  "Oh, I could never do that."  "I can't see how that could work."  Well it DOES work and you CAN do it, but, you have to really want the weight loss, improved health, ease of movement.  Until you reach that point of REALLY REALLY wanting it...you'll never do it.  It took me a lot of wasted years to get to this point.  I'm here now and, sadly, I can't benefit anyone from my experience.  It's something we all have to come to on our own terms.  Thing is, if you know you aren't ready to do what it takes, don't ask.  You are just wasting your time AND mine.  There IS NO EASY FIX.

  1. No easy fix indeed. Congratulations on your perserverance.
I am slowly heading down the path you took though. Not there yet, but the urge is growing.

  2. And here I sit, complaining about being too heavy, knowing it is my own fault and all I need to do is walk more and eat less ice cream. MUCH less ice cream.
Well, smaller portions all round really. But the ice cream is way overboard.

    1. It's one thing to know what you need to do and another thing altogether to actually do it. It's not easy and, like I said, you have to be ready.

  3. It isn't easy, overcoming any addiction is difficult, but the addiction to sugar can be done in 1 or 2 weeks compared to months for cigarettes and years for other addiction. SUgar IS ADDICTING it makes you fat and it makes you hungrier, it does not satiate hunger. Once the sugar addiction is defeated you not only lose weight from those wasted calories, you also lose the urge to over eat. Stop sugar, reduce carbs and do not fear fat and protein, fat and protein makes you less hungry . No sugar is the cure. But consult a doctor before you change any diet. (have to say that)

    1. I think food in general is addictive. Well, not food, eating.

  4. Your weight loss needs many congratulations ...and I'm clapping loudly!

Eight years ago, my husband Eddie "joined the club no one wants to join, the diabetes club. It was a shock, but the initial shock was nothing, compared to what he discovered, when he (and I) started to research the best way to safely control diabetes."

Not only did he lose weight, his blood sugars are those of a non diabetic

    All the best Jan

    1. It's funny....it's not easy...but then, when you do it, and you look back, it WAS/IS easy. It's all to do with mind set.

  5. Exactly. Food is fuel. Eat what you need. The rest does not overflow the fuel line and run away, it finds a place in your body to settle.

    1. We all know the truth and we know what we have to do.....but until we can get past the "I don't want to" stage , nothing is going to happen.

  8. To lose 40 lbs is quite an accomplishment, Delores. I have gone up and down most of my life and know that a diet works only if I am committed to it and that I am doing it for my health. I lost 20 lbs. after I retired and although every now and then I put back five, I never let it go past that and make the effort to lose it ASAP. When my bra gets too tight, I get to walking and drinking protein shakes. There is nothing worse than a tight bra and it is great incentive.

    1. The worst of it is, I left it too late and now my skin is not snapping back.
