In Poor Taste

Since I started being able to buy clothes in 'regular peoples' clothing stores I have been receiving regular promotional emails from Reitmans.  Just this morning they sent me an email declaring that the 'latest thing' in fashion was awaiting me in their store.  Know what it was?  Plaid pants...that's what.  I had plaid pants back in 1973 when I could slip into a size 7 without holding my breath.  They were fab.   (Does anyone say that anymore?)  I'm afraid they wouldn't fit now, holding my breath or not.  I won't be buying any.  Can't imagine plaid on a backside as wide as mine....it would be in poor taste and would probably frighten children and horses.  Glad I wore them when I had the chance.

  1. It was that same year my employer bought me a pair of plaid slacks. I worked in an art supply store and she wanted her staff to look up-to-date and with-it. I wore them exactly one day. Bought my own shirts, but '70s shirts were really tight on the arms --I hated them and bought denim workshirts instead. I have no idea what 1970s clothes designers were thinking but was glad when more humane clothing returned. Delores, we lived through the worst fashion decade in history and can be proud we survived.

  2. Not for me. Then or now. I would look worse in them now though.

  3. I've never worn plaid pants in my life, they weren't a big fashion item out here and I've never followed fashion anyway.
I also remember the days when I could slip into a small size anything and button the waist easily without sucking in my gut. Back then our sizes were labelled as W for women, SW for small woman and there were SSW and XSSW, extra small small woman, which was my size right up until I married. These days my caboose needs a much larger size too.

    1. Holy cow...didn't they make any arrangements for super sized women?

  4. No, no, no - they only ever look good on stick thin women.

  5. I love your sense of humor! I agree....plaid pants, plaid shorts, plaid skirts...do not look good on anyone other than those teeny-tiny sizes! Those days are also gone for me......*sigh*

    1. I think I might look like I was wearing the upholstery from a 1940's Beetle.

  6. I have trouble finding clothes my age, in my price range. Sigh.

    1. I live in mostly blue jeans and t shirts...they seem to go with just about any age.

  7. Plaid used to be the fashion of choice on the golf course. Now they are not par for the course.

And no...no one says "fab" any more, but it was nostalgic hearing it again.
