The Watcher

On the sidelines,
my usual viewpoint,
well back from the action...
in my safety zone,
observant but not....involved.
You don't get hit with the ball this way.
They don't dump Gater Aid down your neck either.
From a safe distance
I share
the agony of defeat
the exhileration of victory
without breaking a sweat
or shedding a tear.
My voice raises in an unheard cheer
and I go home.

  1. Love this. As a confirmed watcher and fence post sitter it speaks loudly to me.

    1. It's a safe but often unsatisfactory existence.
